La Casa di Agartha is located on the second floor of Palazzo Mazziotti, named after the
family of a renowned winery from the early 20th century.
The palace, built in the second half, perhaps of the 19th century, was erected adjacent to the Etruscan-Roman ruins of the temple of the Goddess Northia or perhaps the ancient Roman baths.
As evidence of this, an original Roman mosaic floor is on display in the entrance hall of the palace, at the foot of the staircase leading to La Casa di Agartha.
In the restaurant on the same ground floor, a large glass surface shows the many remains of the aforementioned baths on the floor and under the tables, a spectacle for the patrons of the place.
Numerous inscriptions concerning the ruins have been found by experts, and both from their analysis and the various inspections carried out, it is evident that part of the large arches is integrated into the north facade of Palazzo Mazziotti, which was therefore built adjacent to them.
The oldest reference to the Roman complex dates back to 1737. Following the fall of Vulsinii (Roman Bolsena), part of the temple was incorporated into the convent and Church of the Crucifix, always maintaining an important position on the ancient Via Cassia,
becoming a stopover for pilgrims who traveled along the Via Francigena throughout the Middle
Ages.
Later, the convent was destroyed, and a small church was built further down the valley,
now dedicated to the Madonna Dell’Arcale in homage to the large arches of the Temple, located
today at the corner of the street and the large parking lot in front of the palace
